Leadership and the Trajectory of Nations
In a recent article, a famous academic leader argued that leaders who believe in and actively pursue a progressive trajectory for their nations have historically been the ones capable of bringing meaningful transformation. At the same time, it is pointed out that the leaders of modern technological platforms, particularly the owners and leaders of social media companies, do not necessarily provide nations with a meaningful trajectory of socioeconomic progress. As a result, a nation may experience rapid digital and technological advancement while remaining stagnant in other important areas of national development. Such progress should be socioeconomic, sociopolitical, educational, technological, and related to healthcare and human well-being. Economic development does not simply mean occupying territories, acquiring their resources, and using those resources to create technological or digital advancement. Rather, genuine development means improving the overall quality of life of citizens. In economic terms, this should be reflected in increased income and GDP, improved employment opportunities, and a stronger standard of living. Similarly, the educational and healthcare systems should reach satisfactory levels so that people can enjoy meaningful opportunities for personal and professional development.
