Breakenridge: Politics looking a bit brighter for Smith after Carney meeting

Not that Alberta’s premier could be described as especially dour or morose, but there was significance and newsworthiness in Danielle Smith’s smiles and sunny demeanour last week.

After all, with news that an oil pipeline would not be on the initial list of projects to go through the new Major Projects Office, one might have expected an angry or frustrated premier at the podium last week. And, indeed, there was palpable frustration with that news in Alberta.

So the bullishness and optimism on display at Smith’s news conference was perhaps even more noteworthy than anything we heard at the prime minister’s announcement the same day.
