At almost 82,000 words, the BC NDP’s policy resolution book is longer than The Great Gatsby and Animal Farm combined. Though, trust me, it’s not nearly as entertaining.
Still, it gives you a sense of just how many opinions BC NDP members have about what their party should be doing in its eighth year of government. It’s a lot to digest, and will take up many hours of debate on the convention floor in Victoria during Saturday and Sunday.
A convention policy book is usually a revealing look into a political party’s soul, a mix of big wishes, fever dreams and reluctant pragmatic compromises.
The government should “cancel the contracts to build our new ships in China” and direct BC Ferries to award them to local builders instead, according to one resolution sponsored by Powell-River Sunshine Coast NDP members.
