South Asian employees seeking culturally-responsive workplace supports: report

For many South Asian women, workplace pressures are deeply connected to responsibilities outside the office, requring employers to look beyond a one-size-fits-all approach to employee benefits plans and workplace policies, says Herleen Arora, co-founder and managing director at the South Asian Women’s Collective.

According to a recent report by the SAWC, cultural expectations often position South Asian women as primary caregivers for children, parents and extended family members, particularly in multi-generational households. Many women continue to take on significant unpaid care responsibilities while balancing careers, financial pressures and expectations to support family and community members, it noted.
