You would think, after more than a decade of Trumpian loathsomeness, we Americans would be incapable of shock when President Donald Trump does or says something despicable. And yet, on the morning of Dec. 15, less than 24 hours after the horrific stabbing deaths of beloved Hollywood director Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, Trump found a new low. A subterranean low. A statement so vile even MAGA loyalists seemed repelled.

The president of the United States of America posted on social media:

“A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.
