MG Cyberster, another EV in town that redefines performance. But I miss the drama of ICE
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 N is the only EV I have driven where the fake engine sounds have been done decently.
As I drove the MG Cyberster around Central Delhi this past week, I wondered how electric vehicles have redefined performance. Take the VinFast MPV 7, for example, which I reviewed a couple of weeks ago. It is a large three-row vehicle that can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in under nine seconds. Of course, the MG Cyberster takes performance to another level, it does the same thing in just 3.2 seconds.
And this is shocking. Electric vehicles are just pushing limits when it comes to performance. And when you consider that you can have the Cyberster on the road in India, all 500 plus horsepower of it, for under Rs 80 lakh, your head does spin a bit. I drove the vehicle around the Buddh International Circuit when it was launched, and it was great fun. But taking it for a spin around Delhi was something else altogether.
I wasn’t driving like a maniac. But a two-door convertible sportscar with scissor doors will attract attention, period. And there was far too much traffic to be doing anything questionable. But whenever I got an open stretch where I could use that red ‘Super Sport’ button on........
