New Delhi: High drama ensued outside Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s residence on 7 Lok Kalyan Marg in New Delhi on Tuesday (July 21) after Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi led an unprecedented protest along with leader of opposition in the Rajya Sabha and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi and other party MPs and leaders staged a sit-in protest demanding Modi’s resignation.

Congress leaders tied plastic bands around their hands and raised slogans in protest against the brutality unleashed on students on Monday when youngsters responding to the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP)’s Sansad Chalo March sought to march to parliament but were met with brute force by the Delhi Police.

Several Congress leaders were detained, even as Minister of State (MoS) for the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Jitendra Singh arrived to speak to Gandhi.

The sit-in protest came after Gandhi along with other party MPs and leaders led a foot march to Modi’s residence demanding answers from the prime minister on the police brutality unleashed on students on Monday.

Karnataka chief minister D.K. Shivakumar and Kerala chief minister V.D. Satheeshan also joined the protest outside Modi’s official residence.

The MPs said that they had come to Modi’s residence seeking answers as they were not allowed to debate in parliament.

“We have marched to PM Modi’s house to demand answers from him for the brutalities against young students yesterday. The Government doesn’t want to take any accountability or does it want to have a debate on it in Parliament. PM and HM must resign for destroying the future of India’s youth,” Gandhi wrote in a post on X.
