Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat is on a three-nation global outreach tour covering the US, Canada and the UK. Commenting on the ideology of the RSS, New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani said that it was “incredibly troubling” to see the rise of a movement in India that was based on an “exclusionary vision”.

In his speech to the international audience in New York, the RSS chief stated that any Hindu who believes Muslims should be driven out of India ceases to be a true Hindu. He also said that “unity in diversity” is in Bharat’s DNA, and “diversity has to be celebrated, respected and accepted”. He talked about the idea of ‘live and let live’.

Big words but starkly contradictory to the real ideology of the RSS, as articulated by their ideologue and second chief M.S. Golwalkar in his book, We or Our Nationhood Defined, published in 1939, which is considered as the organisation’s ideological pole star. 

“Hindusthan is the land of the Hindus and is the terra firma for the Hindu Nation alone to flourish upon, what is to be the fate of all those, who, today, happen to live upon the land, though not belonging to the Hindu Race, Religion and culture?…all those, who fall outside the five fold limits of that idea, can have no place in the national life, unless they abandon their differences, adopt the religion, culture and language of the Nation and completely merge themselves in the National race…, or may stay in the country, wholly subordinated to the Hindu Nation, claiming nothing, deserving no privileges, far less any preferential treatment- not even citizen’s rights.”

The RSS was applauded as the ‘world’s biggest NGO’ serving the nation in the Independence Day address by Prime Minister Narendra Modi last year. Founded in 1925, even after 100 years of existence, the RSS is not a registered organisation, its membership is unknown to the public, its funding channels are deliberately kept hidden and its agenda can be construed only by a deep analysis, despite its huge influence over the nation.

In his Independence Day speech this year, Modi proposed a “saptadhara” (seven streams) framework for national development. He also talked about Naxalism, terming his opponents as “dimagi Naxals” or “intellectual Naxals”.

All this rhetoric, including the foreign tour by the RSS chief, actually diverts attention from the real big game being played by the RSS, a parallel saptadhara of fascism engineered to capture state power and national resources in India. Executed through multiple fronts, this RSS-led apparatus operates seven distinct structural streams. Rather than driving national, cultural, religious or civilisational rejuvenation, these streams function as an integrated mechanism designed to concentrate material wealth and political power within the Sangh parivar and its affiliates.

This system forms a self-perpetuating engine: political power is weaponised to extract financial resources, which are then reinvested to permanently secure that power. This sophisticated institutional architecture is continuously altering the foundational character of the Indian republic and the society. The real game of the RSS must be exposed in front of the whole world. The people must focus on these seven streams changing the fate of the nation and the society, not on the diversionary tactics of the prime minister or the RSS chief.
