IS IT GOOD FOR THE JEWS? IF NOT, FULL STOP!!
I’m very even tempered and flexible about life (never upset by much), except for two problems, one of which I can’t do much about is world wide anti semitism. But the other is rampant within the United States and I hope can (with a sense of humor) prove salvageable.
Then again, maybe not…
In any event, I’ll present the problem and let you decide.
The political divide that has arisen in the United States, during the past ten plus years, has been ripping us apart as a country and, as Jews. The latter makes the issue even more dire because Jews divided have always fared badly.
I feel that this political sickness has been exacerbated by those who call themselves liberals but who actually prefer living in a political echo chamber, without understanding the (Adlai Stevenson or JFK) true meaning of the concept of liberalism and that those who are old enough to remember have forgotten truly liberal political times, when people could hold opposing political views without being labeled and ostracized, by the side calling themselves liberals, as some kind of monstrous enemy of our country.
This is an especially egregious position for one Jew to take against another that historically has been a weakness of our own making, allowing non Jews to take advantage of us while some are not watching who the actual enemy is.
At this time in history, so called liberals are so busy building walls to keep conservative Jews out that they don’t see the threat of those who are waiting to pounce upon “a house divided”.
I’ve found that, despite their belief that they have a sense of humor, liberals who think of themselves as open minded are actually emotionally constipated, which is a ridiculous political position to take in the democracy in which we’re blessed to live.
Besides positioning themselves as the head identifiers of those they deem as political enemies (conservative Jews), this political blindness actually makes liberals their own worst enemies, their own brick walled obstacles to what should be their ability to laugh at the situation of their choice to live within such an absurdly rigid political structure.
Speaking of choosing, by choosing to place their rigidity over the value of fostering and maintaining harmonious Jewish relationships, such short sighted liberals spit in the face of God’s choice of us as a people who, together, were chosen to be a shining light within all kinds of darkness, a role model that demonstrates what peace and solidarity looks like so that non Jews can respect us rather than run over us while some are suicidally sleeping.
Not to mention (I never understood that idiom, since the mention of what’s not to mention always follows), if we can’t be politically solidified, tolerance for our political differences is always “good for the Jews”.
