Global Governance Initiative: World Order in an Era of Transformation
At a time of unprecedented global changes, China’s Global Governance Initiative gained prominence at the recent SCO Summit. Against a backdrop of rising geopolitical rivalries, strained economic globalization, and inadequate global governance, the initiative highlighted a forward-looking approach to fostering international cooperation. From climate change and cybersecurity to artificial intelligence and pandemic response, emerging challenges transcend borders and are fundamentally reshaping the international order. In this climate of uncertainty, China’s Initiative offers a potential framework for multilateral cooperation.
The current disorder in global governance is no accident. Actually, it is the inevitable result of profound structural shifts and a historic transition of eras. The Western-dominated system of governance, rooted in the post-WWII order and reinforced by the unipolar moment, is being fundamentally challenged. Meanwhile, the collective ascent of the Global South and emerging economies has redrawn the international power map.
