Dr. Randy Cale’s Terrific Parenting: Choice points are small moments that put life back on track
A few weeks ago, I wrote about the Sacred Pause—the brief space we create so that we do not simply react. It is about stopping long enough to settle ourselves and respond intentionally.
A choice point is related, but broader. It is the moment when we recognize that one path moves us toward the life we want, while another takes us away from it. The choice may be small, but it has direction. It moves us toward health, kindness, discipline, peace, or connection—or toward conflict, avoidance, resentment, indulgence, and another repetition of the same old pattern.
The Sacred Pause creates space. The choice point asks: Now that you have that space, which direction will you take?
These moments appear constantly. You feel your chest tighten when someone says something irritating. You notice your hand reaching for the vape. The alarm goes off, and your walking shoes are beside the bed. You hear yourself preparing to repeat gossip. You reach toward the wine bottle for another glass.
Most lives do not change through one dramatic decision. They change through hundreds of small directional choices, repeated until they become a path.
Learn to recognize the moment
The first step is seeing that the choice point exists. Most of us miss it because habit moves quickly. The body reacts, the thought........
