Sign of relief as Oxfordshire's fire stations remain open
People in Oxfordshire can collectively breathe a sigh of relief with the news that the county council's plans to close some fire stations is essentially dead.
Especially the people in or near Henley, Eynsham and Woodstock who will be relieved that their towns or villages will remain that little bit safer in an emergency.
As the Fire Brigades' Union campaigned on, cuts can kill and nobody has better authority to warn against fire service cuts than the ones on the front line tackling the emergencies.
It speaks volume that more than 1,000 people have taken part in Oxfordshire County Council's consultation to express their thoughts on the the proposed cuts to the fire and rescue service.
