The new AIM-242 LRAAM missile is expected to have a range of around 287 miles, more than double that of the existing AIM-120 AMRAAM.

At this month’s Tailhook Symposium, the United States Navy acknowledged that it is developing a next-generation missile that is intended to strengthen fleet defense by greatly exceeding the capabilities of the current AIM-120 AMRAAM.

The Air Intercept Missile (AIM)-424 Long Range Air-to-Air Missile (LRAAM), also known as the “Malice,” is set to provide increased range, lethality, and combat effectiveness for United States Navy and United States Marine Corps aviation forces, the Department of the Navy confirmed on Saturday.
