Starmer’s march to the right will not end well for Labour

It’s said that one of the signs of madness is doing the same thing again and again and expecting different results.

Step forward Britain’s oleaginous prime minister, Keir Starmer, who believes that the best response to political set-backs is to pander to the right – monstering vulnerable people seeking asylum, turning the screws on the poor and disabled, and kow-towing to the disgrace of a politician who currently occupies the White House.

Starmer’s response to the kicking he got last Thursday was to mouth platitudes about putting more money in people’s pockets (does he know what his government has done?), fixing the NHS (good luck there), and tightening Britain’s borders.

Top of his list is doubling down on immigration. But the simple truth is that immigration is good for a country – by and large immigrants work hard, pay their taxes and make a massive contribution to the economy.
