Thousands of people are expected Friday on the National Mall to rally for voting rights and racial justice ahead of the midterm elections, following a wave of changes to voting laws and redistricting that civil rights groups have condemned as detrimental to Black Americans.
The 2026 “Defend the Vote” March on Washington marks the anniversary of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr.’s 1963 march. Organized by the Rev. Al Sharpton and Martin Luther King III, several lawmakers will speak at Lincoln Memorial, including Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.)(, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger (D).
Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh will speak Friday morning at the Jackson Hole economic symposium, where investors will be searching for any clue about the central bank’s plans for grappling with sticky inflation and an increasingly jittery bond market.
