Both Republicans and Democrats argued Thursday that Congress still has work to do to support American families, pointing to expanded paid family leave access, tax credits for newborn children and other policies aimed at easing financial pressures on parents.

The discussion, labeled the “Future of Supporting American Families,” was sponsored by the American Policy Ventures Foundation in partnership with The Hill and featured a bipartisan lineup of lawmakers and policy figures, including Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.), Sen. John Boozman (R-Ark.), Rep. Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.), Rep. Blake Moore (R-Utah) and former Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway.

Houlahan and Boozman are co-lead sponsors of the More Paid Leave for More Americans Act, bipartisan legislation that would “expand access to paid leave through an innovative state-driven, public-private partnership model while creating a national framework that empowers employers to administer this benefit efficiently across state lines,” according to a press release.
