Cuban: White House bid ‘not going to happen’
Billionaire investor Mark Cuban shut down speculation on Wednesday about whether he could launch a bid for the White House in 2028.
“Yeah, not going to happen,” Cuban told Fox News’s Steve Doocy, as the pair walked through Cuban’s hometown of Pittsburgh, Pa.
Doocy mentioned just before that some people thought the entrepreneur should run as an outsider candidate in the next election cycle.
“Billionaire, reality TV star, sound familiar?” Doocy said, referencing President Trump. “That guy did very well.”
Cuban, a self-described independent, added it was not his “dream” to be president, preferring instead to focus on entrepreneurial endeavors that he believes could be as impactful as political office.
“My dream, and truly, as an entrepreneur, I think I can have an impact and really change the economics of health care in this country,” he said.
He co-founded Cost Plus Drugs in 2022 as part of a push to lower prescription drug costs nationwide. The online pharmacy sells drugs directly to consumers, offering generic medication at reduced prices.
Cuban said on Wednesday that his company was working closely with TrumpRx, the White House’s direct-to-consumer prescription drug platform.
“We’re going to be integrating our list of medications there. We’re looking to bring manufacturing from overseas for generics to Dallas,” he said.
“So there’s so many things we’re doing with the administration that I think we’re really accelerate … because I’m gonna let you in on a secret,” he continued.
“Republicans like cheap drugs, too. Independents like cheap drugs, too. Democrats like cheap drugs, too. So that’s, that’s the mission, to make it inexpensive, starting with medications, and then going across the board to all health care.”
While Cuban ruled out a bid for himself, he also said this week that he does not want to see former Vice President Kamala Harris run again.
“There’s time for a lot of new s— right now,” he said at Politico’s Health Care Summit on Tuesday. Cuban was a surrogate for Harris during the 2024 presidential campaign.
