Trump political director on midterm outlook: ‘It’s way too soon to declare defeat’

President Trump’s political director James Blair expressed his confidence on Wednesday for GOP midterm election victories, despite falling economic approval ratings and a recent loss on a redistricting measure in Virginia. 

“We’re not ignorant of the history of the midterms obviously, right, but it’s way too soon to declare defeat,” Blair told CNN’s Dana Bash on Wednesday. “Republicans are in the fight. We have a record to run on, unlike the Biden administration … and again, our party holds the edge on issues that voters care about.” 

Bash asked Trump’s 2024 campaign director about a recent survey from The Associated Press-NORC Research Center, which showed approval for the president’s economic performance slipping to a record-low of 30 percent. 

Blair declined to directly address these numbers, saying he had not “read that poll specifically.”

Instead, the political director enumerated a GOP strategy for the midterms previously reported by CNN to compare Republicans to Democrats on what he labeled “the main issues........
