North Carolina high school teacher found with drugs and weapons on campus: Sheriff
UNION COUNTY, N.C. (WJZY) — A North Carolina high school teacher has been charged after being found with weapons and drugs on school grounds, according to the Union County Sheriff’s Office.
On Monday, deputies received a tip about a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside Parkwood High School. Officials said the smell was detected in the hallway before students arrived.
During the investigation, deputies traced the odor to a chemistry classroom assigned to Gerald Wade Morton Jr. Morton was screened by a drug expert and allegedly showed clear signs of impairment.
Deputies found his vehicle with the window cracked open on school grounds, where there was also a strong odor of marijuana. No drugs were found in the vehicle, but officials said they retrieved a loaded 9mm handgun from inside the center console.
