Obama trash talks, faces off against Anthony Edwards to promote presidential center opening in Chicago
Former President Obama is going one-on-one with Anthony Edwards — challenging the NBA All-Star in everything from three-pointers to ping pong — in a playful matchup aimed at hyping his forthcoming presidential center.
The 44th president also engaged in some serious trash talking as he took on the Minnesota Timberwolves shooting guard in a video released Tuesday by the Obama Presidential Center.
“Oh you want some of this?” Obama teased Edwards as the pair engaged in a series of wide-ranging, rapid-fire competitions.
“I seen what going on with your jump shot,” Edwards quipped back.
“I remember you telling me you’re the truth,” Obama said.
“We’re going to see right now,” the ex-commander in chief, an avid basketball fan, told 24-year-old Edwards.
“That’s money,” Obama said as he attempted to sink a basket, before missing the shot.
“Oh, come on!” Obama, 64, yelled.
After the hoops face-off, the pair moved on to table tennis.
“You’re not the only one who can crank things up,” Obama told his opponent.
“What do you call somebody who doesn’t mind losing?” the ex-commander in chief then asked Edwards as the two battled in a game of Connect Four.
“A loser,” Obama said.
After clashing in the sweeping tournament, Obama said, “Next one is gonna be on my home court: the Obama Presidential Center on the south side of Chicago.”
“We’re going to be opening the Obama Presidential Center this summer to all visitors — even Anthony Edwards,” Obama said into the camera.
The $850 million project — which has set records as the longest-delayed and most expensive presidential library in history — includes plans for a museum, Obama Foundation offices, a branch of the Chicago Public Library and a playground. It’s poised to open in June.
