Florida AG threatens charges after Cunningham is fouled in WNBA game

Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier (R) threatened to charge WNBA players with assault after a hard foul against star Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham over the weekend.

Cunningham has been at the center of controversy in recent weeks over her comments pushing back on transgender athletes in women’s sports.

She was on the receiving end of a hard foul on Saturday from the Chicago Sky’s DiJonai Carrington, who was ejected from the game and later posted on social media suggesting race was a factor in the call.

“The WNBA knows better than to play games down here in Florida, because I’ll be charging people with assault,” Uthmeier wrote in his post responding to a video of the play.
