FIFA denies Belgium’s appeal after reversing red card against Balogun

FIFA has tossed out an appeal filed by the Belgian soccer federation after it reversed a red card against American striker Folarin Balogun ahead of the country’s clash with the United States on Monday night.

The federation found Belgium’s appeal “inadmissible” on Monday, The Athletic first reported, saying the Royal Belgian Football Association “is not a party to the proceedings and, as such, has no standing to appeal the decision.”

Balogun, who was issued a red card during the U.S.’s win against Bosnia-Herzegovina last week, will be eligible to play Monday.

President Trump lobbied FIFA to review the penalty.

Trump, speaking to reporters Monday morning in the Oval Office, called the red card “horrible”........
