The Trump administration is planning the “largest single mass revocation of visas in US history,” the Associated Press (AP) reported Monday — a move that should only encourage the base to turn out in the upcoming midterms even if their political wishlist hasn’t otherwise been fulfilled.

State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott told the AP that the State Department is “coordinating with DHS to identify and revoke the nonimmigrant visas of foreigners who have come to the United States claiming to be short-term visitors, but then file for asylum to stay here permanently.”

The State Department reportedly plans to revoke B1 and B2 visas that were issued between 2016 and 2026 from people that sought or are currently seeking asylum. These visas are given for tourists, medical visits and other short term leaves. According to the Associated Press, the revocations “would not necessarily result in their immediate deportation” but would result in the immigrants losing “their status as business or tourism travelers.”
