Japan’s Farm and Food Exports Hit New High As Trade Patterns Shift

Amid tariffs and geopolitical headwinds, Japan’s trade data shows new patterns emerging – led by food products, tourism-linked consumption, and advanced manufacturing.

Surging exports of products like scallops, green tea, and sake reflect the global expansion of Japanese culinary culture and brand value.

According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Japan’s exports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products and food rose 12.8 percent year on year in 2025 to about 1.7 trillion yen (about $11 billion). It’s the 13th consecutive year that such exports have set a new record high.

According to data from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Japan’s exports of agricultural, forestry and fishery products and food rose 12.8 percent year on year in 2025 to about 1.7 trillion yen (about $11 billion).
