KATY GORDON: Perth Fringe event will be a great opportunity for the city
It was great to hear about the Fringe event coming to Perth in September.
To be honest, Perth needs a boost to its nightlife.
If you take a walk down the High Street in the evening, you would be forgiven for thinking you’d wandered into the start of 28 Days Later – the place seems like a ghost town, particularly on weekdays.
There are a few venues trying to bring some life into the city centre and their efforts are to be commended.
But I know having spoken to a few bar and restaurant managers that it can be a hard slog at times.
Perth’s nightlife seems to have shrunk over the years
It can be difficult to pinpoint exactly why this is. When I was younger and regularly out and about, the pubs always seemed packed on the weekends.
If you wanted live music there were a few spots to try (the Twa Tams being a personal favourite of mine in years gone by), and there was always somewhere offering a bit of karaoke.
Comedy nights have been hit-or-miss over the years, but when they have run they have pulled in some great acts.
