A costly penalty by a San Francisco 49ers defensive player led head coach Kyle Shanahan to bench him and confront him on the sidelines.

The 49ers were leading 19-7 and had the Cardinals facing third-and-10 at their own 40-yard line with 10:49 left in the second quarter. San Francisco appeared to get off the field when a short pass to Arizona receiver Greg Dortch only went for seven yards.

But as the play completed, Cardinals tight end Trey McBride was blocking 49ers cornerback Renardo Green in the face, leading Green to push back at McBride’s facemask. The two briefly separated without a flag, but Green proceeded........
