Mammoth ski patroller dies, resort's second patroller death this year

A ski patroller at Mammoth Mountain who was injured by an avalanche Friday morning died over the weekend. At 4 p.m. Sunday, Mammoth announced via its social media that Cole Murphy, 30, succumbed to injuries sustained while out on avalanche patrol Friday morning prior to the resort’s opening.
“With profound sorrow, Mammoth Mountain confirms that the Ski Patroller who was critically injured and hospitalized Friday has died from his injuries,” the post said. “Cole Murphy, 30, was an experienced patroller with a deep passion........
