A Scribe’s Musings: Characters come to life in West Elgin Dramatics Society’s ‘Streetcar’

The wonderful West Elgin Dramatics Society is currently enacting A Streetcar Named Desire, Tennessee Williams’ masterpiece about coming to terms with life in reduced circumstances. 

The play was first staged in 1947, and a wide variety of extremely talented actresses have played Blanch Dubois on stage and in movies, including Jessica Tandy, Jessica Lange, Natasha Richardson, Cate Blanchett and Rachel Weisz.

In WEDS production Blanche is played by Jessica Ducharme, whose performance is a tour de force. Her stage presence is exceptional, with every facial expression, glance, grimace or smile convey the depth of this character’s troubled personality. 

Stanley Kowalski is portrayed by Marc Motiejunas, who ably conveys an intensity and force which match with both Stella’s and Blanche’s fine performances. 

Scarlette Tozer is Stella Kowalski, and she too expresses a wide range of emotions in reaction to her sister’s capricious states of mind and her........
