Going through old pocket calendars and notes made at the time, I’m reminded of dozens of stories collected during 25 years working frontline detox at Holmes House in Simcoe.

I remember a biker who went through the treatment program. As rough as he looked, he was a nice guy who folded his colours and blended in. When he came back from an overnight furlough I checked his duffel for contraband and found nothing.

A while later he appears in front of my desk with my wedding ring, which I’d lost in rummaging his kit. An honest man.
