Therapy is a safe space to overcome the stigma against our judgmental nature.

Judgments provide important information about the safety of others and situations.

Judgments often follow from pain or an interpersonal slight.

We must understand where are judgments are coming from, but also listen to rather than dismiss them.

There is a tyranny of positivity in the U.S. A belief most of us are socialized with is that it is not okay to feel sad. Therapists are tasked with counteracting the emotional phobia of the general culture when it comes to any feelings that are not happiness. One manifestation of this belief system that I see in my clinical practice is that it is not okay to have judgments.

Little did I know that embracing judgment would be so therapeutic for my clients. Over the years, I have encouraged my clients to........
