Feeling older than your actual age is linked to lower sexual satisfaction and well-being.
Subjective age predicts the quality of one's sex life even after accounting for physical health.
Older adults who feel 25 to 30 years younger than their actual age are the happiest with their lives.
Healthy aging is about more than biology—it's also about mindset.
How do our sex lives change as we age? Several studies have explored this question over the years, but most have addressed it through a fairly narrow lens, focusing largely on how physical changes associated with aging affect sexual experiences.
The basic storyline to emerge from these studies is that, as we get older, our odds of developing chronic health conditions increase, and this, in turn, can negatively impact sexual frequency and satisfaction.
While certainly important, looking at biological changes alone doesn't tell the full story. Independent of our health status, psychological factors such as how old we actually feel also seem to play a big role in how older adults feel both in and out of the bedroom.
