That is why so many Islanders, across political lines, speak with such respect about Peter Bevan-Baker. He was not a career politician. He entered public life because he believed the Island deserved better stewardship of its land, water, communities and democratic institutions. He raised the level of debate in the legislature, restored a measure of decorum, and brought ethical seriousness to a political culture too often shaped by cynicism and short-term thinking.
Under his leadership, the Green Party of P.E.I. did something historic. It moved from the margins to the threshold of government. That did not happen because the party played politics more cleverly than others. It........
