Mom and I were out for a drive the other day, running a few errands in Charlottetown. One of which happened to take us down Upton Road.
It had been a long time since mom had cause to go that way, and she was shocked at how much it had changed from her memories.
It’s an area she once knew well.
Her mother was a Hurry from the Hurry Road, just one street over from what’s now Upton Road. The homestead is still standing and has been converted into a B&B named A Country Home Inn. Mom’s uncle’s house is next door, and she spent a lot of time there over the years.
Back then, there were only a couple of homesteads on the road, she said.
Whole neighbourhoods have popped up since, and the area has seen a lot of recent construction.
As we passed a whole street of brand-new townhouses, mom let out a sigh.
“I wonder what your grandmother would think of all this,” she........
