As a kid growing up around Summerside in the ’90s, The Capital Theatre was our escape to the wide and wonderful world outside our sleepy little corner of rural Canada.

Personally, I was a country kid with access to only two TV channels, CBC and CTV. So, seeing something like New York at Christmas in a movie like Home Alone 2, which was released when I was six years old, was mind-blowing.

We were captivated by all the great Disney Renaissance classics of that time period, like Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, Mulan, Tarzan, The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, The Rescuers Down Under and so many more.

We were mesmerized by the extraordinary, boundary-pushing magic of films like Titanic, Toy Story, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Apollo 13 and Jurassic Park.

Even the less remembered movies of that time (some for good reason) left impressions on us. Just because they mostly failed to stick around in the public zeitgeist, doesn’t mean they did not bring joy to our young and impressionable........
