CHEERS AND JEERS: Cheers to the Charlottetown Farmers' Market
Cheers to the Charlottetown Farmers’ Market vendors and board who pitched in to find a suitable location within weeks of a Christmas Day fire that caused major damage to their building. The market is a weekly tradition for many Islanders, who showed their support in the days and weeks following the fire. A GoFundMe set up to help with restoration costs has almost reached its $45,000 target, while a pop-up event at the P.E.I. Farm Centre on New Year’s Eve drew a healthy crowd. By this past Saturday, the market was set up in its new, temporary home on North River Road, welcoming back many vendors and long-time customers. While many more will have to restock products lost to the fire and the rebuilding effort will take many months, the quick turnaround shows the farmers’ market remains a valuable Island staple.
