After a long day of juggling responsibilities, I decided to order Chinese takeout. Not for a special occasion, but to simply get dinner on the table in a timely fashion without stress.

Wee Wok Express, located at 337 George St. S., has been a long time dependable restaurant and the business model is simple: Takeout for pickup or delivery.

There is no seating as the foyer entrance is as far as a customer will need to go to pay the cashier. The menu is expansive, affordable and everyone can find a delicious item to enjoy.

I always laugh when I am watching a Netflix drama series where the main character is eating Chinese food from those iconic red and white takeout containers. Wee Wok has its own version with classic chopsticks and fortune cookies. I also appreciate cleaning the containers to reuse at another time — a small but practical bonus.

My family and I regularly enjoy Wee Wok as it is a delicious functional meal that we all love. The food is always picked up as we live within the neighbourhood. It is fresh and hot. The portions are generous and you always believe you can eat it all in one setting, but this is never the case. I am always humbly reminded that I can have leftovers tomorrow.

Dining together as a family has always been meaningful to me, especially celebrating a special occasion such as a birthday or anniversary. Once everyone was full and happy, we would all choose a fortune cookie. We would share our words of wisdom and twist the words to make sense to our lives.

These are the moments I cherish the most. The laughter, silliness and stories shared all while enjoying the satisfying feeling of a good meal together.
