Early in the spring the prospects for having a red-tailed hawk nest to photograph looked very good. We had found several nests that the hawks were occupying and were incubating eggs, however once the leaves started to come in on the trees most of these nests all but disappeared. It was near impossible to get a shot at them on all but one of the nests.

Luckily though, this one nest offered a pretty good view of the activity on the nest.

Each day when we checked on the nest one of the adults was sitting on eggs. It was most often the female. She took over most of the nesting duties and it was the male’s job to bring food and nesting materials. His stops at the nest were very quick. He would bring a mouse or a small stick to the nest for her, drop it and be off again to hunt for the next meal.
