A day of spring surprises
It was about to be a day of pleasant spring surprises. Astrid got home from running a few errands and let me know that she had seen a couple great blue herons fishing on a local waterway. That was all I needed to hear. I was on my way.
By the time I got there, of course the herons had already caught their breakfast and were long gone. I was just about to move on to somewhere else when a spot of colour moving about in the bulrushes caught my eye. Hiding out there was a pair of the most beautiful ducks we have here in the Kawartha Lakes. It was a pair of wood ducks taking a break from dabbling for bits of food in the calm shallow sections of the lake to clean themselves up. They carefully pulled at and preened each feather.
A male and female wood duck moved about the calm shallow portion of the lake.
