Recently appointed Toronto Maple Leafs GM John Chayka’s first order of business with his new club was relieving Craig Berube of his head coaching duties.

Chayka is now tasked with hiring the 42nd head coach in Maple Leafs history. 

Franchises often prefer having a head coach in place for the NHL Entry Draft. It can be beneficial for an organization to draft prospects whose style of play is conducive to their coach’s systems, and strategies. 

This year’s draft is quickly approaching on June 26 at KeyBank Center in Buffalo. Chayka and Leafs management, including new Senior Executive Advisor and former Leaf great Mats Sundin, have been busy interviewing an extensive list of candidates for the vacant head coach position. 

Chayka reportedly interviewed 2006 Stanley Cup champion Peter Lavoliette, who guided the Carolina Hurricanes to post-season glory, former Detroit Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde,........
