World Breastfeeding Week 2026

FROM 1-7 August, the world observes World Breastfeeding Week, a global campaign led by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA), with support from WHO and UNICEF. Its 2026 emphasis on strengthening proven approaches is relevant to Pakistan. Rather than searching for new solutions, Pakistan must strengthen practices already known to save lives, reduce malnutrition and support healthy development. Breastfeeding is not simply a maternal choice; it is a public health and national development priority. Pakistan continues to face challenges related to child malnutrition, stunting and preventable infections. Strengthening breastfeeding can improve child survival, nutrition and development.
