Gov. Hochul was spot-on in having New York State join the new federal tax credit providing $3,400 a year for families for K-12 education. Passed last year as part of President Trump’s very unbalanced One Big Beautiful Bill Act, the Federal Education Freedom Tax Credit is actually a good deal, helping all public school parents, as well those who have their kids in private or religious education.

Hochul has taken a lot of heat for her decision from the teachers unions, which are frankly silly to believe that families will abandon public schools and decide to pay for private/religious schools due the modest tax credit (only $1,700 for a single parent). Unlike some union standbys in the Legislature, such as Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly........
