The crucial thing missing from Rufford Ford as reopening moves closer

It's not just the usual sight of enormous vehicles splashing eager crowds missing from Rufford Ford - it's common sense. Responding to a dangerous situation at the ford by closing it down and slapping concrete barriers at either side of it is a solution which many will feel is rather lacking in the creativity department.

That solution was thankfully always going to be a temporary one whilst Nottinghamshire County Council worked out the long-term future of the ford following its initial December 2022 closure. That closure was brought in after several "near-misses" at the ford, where huge crowds had started to gather to watch vehicles either splashing through or getting stuck when trying to traverse the ford when water levels were too high.

The vehicles getting stuck became something of an internet sensation, with videos of these fails attracting thousands of YouTube views and only........
