Do you fancy having a crack at running Nottingham's tram network? I thought not.

For those who do take the plunge into managing Nottingham's light rail system, there is one thing above all else they quickly have to learn to live with - the majority of things that go wrong are completely and utterly out of their control.

For those in doubt, this week's sudden announcement of a timetable change shone a spotlight on the capacity for outside forces to affect Nottingham's tram services.

NET runs a fleet of 37 trams, which you would assume is an ample number to keep a regular and reliable service going. Yet four of those vehicles are currently in tram hospital, undergoing extensive repairs after a spate of recent incidents.

The incidents that caused such damage? In all cases, it was cars running red lights and crashing straight into a tram.
