Bed shortages are forcing medical professionals at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (N&N) to treat their patients in makeshift spaces.

The shocking statistics recorded between May to July this year have revealed that at its peak as many as 25 individuals were receiving care outside of a ward or room.

Chiefs at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Trust said pressures on services had led to a reliance on corridor care in recent years.

But its bosses warned this must not become the norm and vowed to reduce the number.

The figures - which are the latest to be published online by NHS England - showed an average of 12 people a day in July being treated in makeshift areas at the N&N.

During the previous month, in June, that figure had been 40pc more at 17 a day, while in May an average of 10 patients per day were treated in........
