For six months, the mysterious morning clucking sparked “chickengate” and forced fed-up locals to desperately track down the noisy birds plaguing the Anglia Square area.

But the suspected poultry have now been cleared and the unlikely culprits have actually been revealed to be noisy gulls nesting above Looses Emporium.

Initially rumours had swirled around the Norwich neighbourhood that the noise of pecking and clucking was from chickens.

Sarah Frost, who lives in Pendleton Gate, said: "The random chicken noises have been going on for about six months.

"Some people say it is a cockerel, but it’s definitely not. She sounds like a very happy, chirpy chicken.

"I can hear it almost every morning."

While Lisa Smith Clare, who lives behind Looses Emporium, said she enjoys listening to the "charming" sounds from her garden.
