New Delhi: Baisakhi, also known as Vaisakhi, is the harvest festival celebrated with pomp and fervour in Punjab. It marks the beginning of the New Year as per the Sikh calendar. It commemorates the founding of the Khalsa by Guru Gobiond Singh in 1699 and honours the spirit of resilience and gratitude. On this day, people don their vibrant phulkari dupattas and dance to the beat of the dhol. This year, Baisakhi will be celebrated on April 14, according to Drik Panchang.

However, just a day before Baisakhi, on April 13, is a mourning day as a large crowd had gathered at the Jallianwala Bagh in Amritsar during their annual Baisakhi fair to protest against the Rowlatt Act, which allowed the British to imprison Indians without trial. However, General Dyer arrived with his troops and ordered open fire, killing hundreds of people........
