Nepal floods: Chinese national, 60-year-old woman rescued alive after 11 days

Two dramatic rescues have brought fresh hope to Nepal’s flood-hit areas, with a Chinese national pulled alive from a hydropower tunnel and a 60-year-old woman rescued from her debris-filled home after 11 days. The breakthroughs came as teams continued searching for hundreds missing after the devastating August 26 flash floods.

A Chinese national was rescued alive from a hydropower tunnel in Nepal on Saturday, 11 days after devastating flash floods struck the country.

The worker, identified as Luhaitao, was found inside Audit Tunnel 4 of the 216-MW Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project in Nuwakot district. A joint rescue team of the Nepali Army and foreign rescuers located him around 225 metres inside the tunnel.

The operation was completed at about 1.30 pm, following which Luhaitao was evacuated by helicopter. Medical........
