Two dramatic rescues have brought fresh hope to Nepal’s flood-hit areas, with a Chinese national pulled alive from a hydropower tunnel and a 60-year-old woman rescued from her debris-filled home after 11 days. The breakthroughs came as teams continued searching for hundreds missing after the devastating August 26 flash floods.
A Chinese national was rescued alive from a hydropower tunnel in Nepal on Saturday, 11 days after devastating flash floods struck the country.
The worker, identified as Luhaitao, was found inside Audit Tunnel 4 of the 216-MW Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project in Nuwakot district. A joint rescue team of the Nepali Army and foreign rescuers located him around 225 metres inside the tunnel.
