‘Ramhit Yadav’ becomes ‘Ram Ne Yadav Ko Mara’ in UP voter list error
A software glitch in Uttar Pradesh’s voter list turned the name ‘Ramhit Yadav’ into “Ram Ne Yadav Ko Mara” after the system translated words instead of converting them into Hindi script, UP Chief Electoral Officer said. The state administration has acknowledged errors in 158 entries and sought explanations from officials responsible for electoral rolls.
The Uttar Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer’s (CEO) office has attributed the mistakes to a software glitch that translated names instead of transliterating them from English into Hindi. Explanations have been sought from divisional commissioners and district magistrates responsible for maintaining the electoral rolls.
According to the administration, the errors occurred after an online registration facility was introduced. Names originally entered in English were meant to be converted into Hindi script without changing their pronunciation or meaning.
