Personalised mRNA cancer treatment: Moderna-Merck melanoma therapy meets Phase 3 trial goals
A personalised mRNA cancer treatment developed by Moderna and Merck has met key Phase 3 targets in patients with resected melanoma. The therapy is built using mutations from each patient’s tumour and is combined with Keytruda, with full trial data still to be released.
New Delhi: A personalised mRNA cancer treatment developed by Moderna and Merck has met two major goals in a late-stage melanoma trial, marking an important step for treatments built around the genetic features of an individual patient’s tumour. The companies said the experimental therapy, intismeran autogene, was tested alongside Keytruda after patients had surgery to remove their cancer.
The Phase 3 INTerpath-001 study found that the combination produced statistically significant and clinically meaningful improvements in recurrence-free survival and distant metastasis-free survival compared with Keytruda alone, according to topline results announced by Merck and Moderna. The companies have not yet released the detailed Phase 3 numbers, so the size of the benefit cannot be independently assessed from the announcement alone. The full data is expected to be presented at a medical meeting and shared with........
