Thackeray Brothers’ Reunion: Can Raj and Uddhav reclaim their lost political ground?

The political scene is heating up in Maharashtra as Deputy CM Eknath Shide is not looking happy with his present position in the government. Amid this, the news of former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and his cousin Raj Thackeray being spotted together at a wedding function in Mumbai has triggered speculations about whether the political differences between the two have been resolved. The politically estranged cousins ​​were seen together at the wedding of government official Mahendra Kalyankar’s son in Andheri on Sunday evening.

This was the third occasion in the last two months that the two brothers met in public, fueling speculations about improvement in ties between the two parties. Raj Thackeray had left the (then unified) Shiv Sena in November 2005 and formed his party Maharashtra Navnirman Sena the following year in 2006 in Mumbai. In last year’s Maharashtra Assembly elections, Shiv Sena (UBT), which was part of the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance, won 20 seats while MNS won none. Uddhav’s party also faced a split with Eknath Shinde getting the original Shiv Sena tag. The split came as a major loss for Uddhav, who not only lost his father’s legacy but also the original Shiv Sena symbol.

This family reunion of sorts comes at a time amid speculations of a rift in the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, and thus these frequent meetings of the Thackeray........
